Fadnavis, addressing the press, described the role of Chief Minister as a “technical post” and stressed the collaborative decision-making process within the Mahayuti alliance, which includes Eknath Shinde, Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar. The BJP’s nomination now requires endorsement from the state legislature, where the newly elected 132 MLAs will cast their vote.
In a significant development, Eknath Shinde, the former Maharashtra CM and Shiv Sena leader, has agreed to serve as Deputy CM under Fadnavis. Shinde’s appointment follows encouragement from party leaders and MLAs during a meeting at his Mumbai residence, Varsha.
When is the oath-taking ceremony?
The Mahayuti government’s swearing-in ceremony is set for December 5 in the evening at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan. At least 2,000 women (ladki bahin) will attend the swearing-in ceremony. There will be CMs from 22 states including BJP-ruled or allies at the event. Apart from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah will also be present for the ceremony.

Maharashtra BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar said the Mahayuti partners will meet Governor C P Radhakrishnan at 3.30 pm on Wednesday to stake a claim to form a government in the state. While speaking to reporters, he said, “After the meeting at the Vidhan Bhavan, all Mahayuti leaders will head to the Raj Bhavan to meet Governor C P Radhakrishnan. The leaders will submit their claim to form government in Maharashtra.”

The BJP achieved remarkable success in the November 20 Maharashtra elections, securing 132 out of 288 seats, marking its best performance in the state so far. Fadnavis was speaking to reporters after meeting Governor C P Radhakrishnan who invited him to form the next government. He was accompanied by Shinde and Pawar.

BJP leader Prasad Lad said the swearing-in ceremony will be a grand affair with nearly 42,000 attendees. “PM Modi, nine to ten Union ministers, and 19 chief ministers and deputy chief ministers will attend the ceremony,” he said.
