I am a 65-year-old pensioner in Kolkata, how do I apply for the state old age pension scheme?

Old age pension is governed by West Bengal Premises Tenancy Act 1997 and the state social welfare department's scheme applicable in Kolkata. The Calcutta High Court has held that pension cannot be denied for technical defects curable by the applicant. You must apply through the local body or the social welfare office with age proof and income certificate. The scheme provides a monthly pension to persons above the notified age and below the income ceiling. The pension is credited through direct benefit transfer to the beneficiary's bank account. The state also provides a survivor pension in case of the beneficiary's death for the spouse. Delayed disbursement is challengeable before the Calcutta High Court.
