I am a student from a remote area near Dibrugarh and need hostel accommodation, what does the state hostel scheme offer?

State hostels are governed by Assam Rent Control Act 1972 and the welfare department's hostel scheme operational in Dibrugarh. The Gauhati High Court has held that hostel admission must follow transparent criteria and cannot be arbitrary.

You must apply to the hostel superintendent with a bonafide certificate and income proof. Priority is given to SC, ST, OBC and minority students within the notified income limit.

The scheme provides free boarding, lodging and a monthly stipend for eligible students. Maintenance of the hostel is audited by the welfare department.
